The Forgotten Legends

A nostalgic trip back in time to the age of Harry Stafford, Charlie Roberts, Sandy Turnbull, Joe Spence, Johnny Carey and Jack Rowley. These were the greats who made Manchester United great. They were real men who could fight in wars for their country and even die if they had to.

Legends

Abouth this book

All these legends had two more things in common: all made their United debuts before the start of the second world war, and none of them have had their story told. If poor Ralph Milne could make the Top 100 Manchester United players’ list by default, then these legends really ought to make it on merit.

Writing this book was the most enjoyable experience. First of all I got to work with fellow dedicated Reds fans, and secondly because it gave me the opportunity to come in contact with descendents of the club's past stars.

The book covers six United legends from the past  - Harry Stafford, Charlie Roberts, Sandy Turnbull, Joe Spence, Johnny Carey and Jack Rowley - and tells their life story to show how highly they ought to be regarded in the club's history. In doing so, I was able to connect with Stafford, Roberts, and Spence's descendents who supplied me with so much information and exciting memorabilia that at one time belonged to their ancestors.
